CAPS Workshops
By attending CAPS workshops you will be exposed to a variety of skills to help improve your quality of life and relationships. You are welcome to attend all the workshops or pick and choose the ones that you are most interested in. Workshops are free and will be held through Zoom.
Participants must reside in Utah. Any USU member can access the following CAPS recorded workshops.
All workshops will be offered over Zoom. If you are interested in attending, please call the CAPS office at 435.797.1012.

Effective Sleep Habits
4/17/2023 | 11:00am-12:00pm
This one-hour workshop will focus on understanding sleep and the impact sleep has on mental health. We will discuss the difference between acute and chronic insomnia along with different ways to improve sleep (challenging dysfunctional beliefs, relaxation, stimulus control, and sleep hygiene).
Stress Anxiety Workshop Series Part Five: Progressive Muscle Relaxation Wellness Planning

Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is one way to relieve or reduce aches and pains that come up from stress and muscle tension. In this workshop, you will experience PMR and learn how to use it in your everyday life. This workshop will also guide you through creating a wellness plan that will outline specific steps you can take to reduce stress and improve quality of life. The wellness plan will focus on several dimensions in life including: sleep, nutrition, academic, relationships and more.
Getting in Touch

How can mindfulness improve our sexual health? Physical intimacy with others and ourselves can be hindered by societal messages - but those aren't the restraints that should be present in our sexual exploration and lives. In this one-hour discussion, we will talk about the relationship between mindfulness and sexual health, and how being intentional, present, and compassionate may unlock a healthier relationship with our own bodies and deepen our connection with others.
The impact of Trauma on Your Body

This one hour workshop will discuss how trauma impacts the body and discuss what that means for trauma survivors. This workshop will also discuss basic coping and resrouces for seeking treatment.
Stress & Anxiety Workshop Series Part Four: Healthy Thinking

Thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected. When we modify our thoughts, we can change the way we feel and how we respond to our environment. This workshop will discuss specific ways to change negative, unhelpful thoughts into healthy thoughts and reduce stress.

Imagery and visualization are evidence-based strategies to help reduce stress and anxiety. These techniques may also improve performance anxiety or interpersonal interactions.

Part one of this five series workshop will focus on learning about the mind/body stress response and help identify your personal triggers for stress and anxiety. You will start to create an action plan to effectively manage stress. Attend all of the workshops in the series or just a couple. Either way you will have a new approach to stress. All workshops in the series are interactive and experiential.
Debunking Diet Culture

Diet culture tells us that our appearance and body shape are more important than physical, psychological, and general well-being. It's the idea that controlling your body, particularly your diet—by limiting what and how much you eat—is normal. This workshop will explore the harmful effects of diet culture, debunk the myths it tells us about our food and bodies, and how to take of ourselves in a world surrounded with diet culture.
Body Acceptance

Negative body image is a common issue among college students. The term, “body image,” refers to the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs you hold about your body, as well as how they affect your daily life. Body acceptance is a way to build a healthier relationship with your body. In this workshop, we will explore what body image distress and body acceptance is and tools to help you move towards a place of body acceptance.
