Dr. Peterson is one of Utah State University’s most
distinguished historians and educators, with a career that
has shaped generations of Aggies and enriched the
cultural and civic life of our region and state.
Over the course of more than 50 years, he has served USU
in many roles, including professor of history, founder of the
Mountain West Center for Regional Studies, Vice President
for Advancement, and trusted ambassador for the
university. Known for his engaging storytelling, deep
knowledge of American history, and genuine love for
people and place, Dr. Peterson has a remarkable ability to
make history feel both meaningful and relevant.
As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the
Declaration of Independence, we are fortunate to have Dr.
Peterson help us reflect on the history, ideals, and
enduring significance of that defining moment in
American history.
