Gary and Andrea Powell
Utah State University Honorary Aggies

Gary and Andrea Powell exemplify the spirit of generosity, family, and service that defines Utah State University. Though both are graduates of another Utah university, their connection to USU began in 2007 when Gary, deeply impressed by the outstanding education their children received, reached out to establish their first scholarship. Inspired by the transformative experiences of their three Aggie children, they found a meaningful philanthropic home at Utah State.
After three decades of hard work building GP Construction Services from the ground up, Gary and Andrea turned their success into a legacy of giving. Their first scholarship, created at Salt Lake Community College, helps students transitioning out of foster care to pursue higher education. At Utah State, their impact has grown through five endowed scholarships and generous support for campus facilities, including new bleachers at the track field.
Their most recent endowment, established in June 2025, helps nursing students at USU Blanding cover travel expenses for clinicals — a vital need for many pursuing their degrees.
Together, Gary and Andrea have built a life centered on faith, compassion, and opportunity. They are proud parents of four children — including a son who serves as a professor in USU’s Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning — and the joyful grandparents of 17 grandchildren.
Utah State University is honored to recognize Gary and Andrea Powell with the Honorary Aggie Award for their enduring generosity, devotion to education, and heartfelt commitment to helping others succeed.
