Jeneile Tams '63, '65
Utah State University Alumni Merit Citation

Jeneile Tams attended Utah State University in the 1960s, majoring in music education. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1963 and a master’s degree in 1965. Early in her academic journey, she was invited by Director of Bands Max F. Dalby to play clarinet in the USU Summer Alumni Band. Jeneile has remained a dedicated member of this ensemble, playing under the direction of Dalby, then Nicholas Morrison, and now Lane Weaver.
Jeneile enjoyed a successful career as a junior high school band director in North Ogden, Utah. Even after retiring, she continued her commitment to music education by working with band teachers in Cache Valley and beyond as a substitute teacher and guest clinician. Her dedication to fostering musical talent has left an indelible mark on countless students and educators.
For many years, Jeneile served as the assistant director of the Summer Music Clinic at USU under the leadership of Al Wardle, a trusted mentor and esteemed colleague. She was a key figure in these clinics, embodying the spirit and excellence of Utah State to all the students who attended.
By excelling in her profession, serving her community, and giving back to her alma mater, Jeneile exemplifies the essence of what it means to be an Aggie. She has consistently supported the university with her annual contributions to Utah Public Radio, the Summer Alumni Band, and the Max F. Dalby Endowment.
Her unwavering dedication to music education and ongoing involvement with the Summer Alumni Band highlight Jeneile’s outstanding contributions to her profession, community, and USU. Her legacy inspires future generations of Aggie musicians and educators.
