Museum Purchase with the President’s Fund for Sculpture, NEHMA
Michael Hamby’s sculpture Mountain Man is on the east side of the Biology and Natural Resources building. Hamby has a unique combination of talents. After playing professional football with the Buffalo Bills for four years, he pursued a career in the visual arts. Today he is best known for his cast bronze sculptures featuring the wildlife of North America, Native Americans, portraits of historical figures, and Mountain Men. Mountain Men were common in western American in the 1800s and were often trappers or explorers. The University acquired this piece with the President’s Fund for Sculpture, a fund established by former USU President George Emert in the mid 1990s.
