Amy Freeman Lee was born in 1914 and spent her life in Texas where she became known for modernist landscape and western scene painting and sculpture. As an artist, Lee’s style evolved over time from traditional realism to various forms of non-objective art. She was a founder of the San Antonio Symphony, the San Antonio Art League and the Texas Watercolor Society, and produced watercolors of western scenes during the 1940s and early 1950s.
As an American artist, writer and lecturer, Lee was a supporter of literacy, a champion of the liberal arts and one of the most popular speakers in Texas, even when illness slowed her activities during her later years. Lee’s self-deprecating humor and wit produced lively presentations where she shared her belief in the importance of art, civility, humane ethics and universal love.
