The USU Eastern Library & Learning Commons will be hosting a traveling exhibit “Bringing War Home” August 10ththru September 30th. The exhibit features object stories of veterans and military families. In addition to this exhibit will be a companion exhibit “Paint the Desert: Memory, Identity, and Commemoration on the T-Walls of the Global War on Terror” by A.J. Arriola. Both exhibits will be available for viewing during LLC open hours: Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm. Beginning August 31, the LLC will be open Monday thru Thursday 8am-9pm, Friday 8am-5pm and Sundays 4pm-9pm. The LLC would also like to extend an invitation for visitors to view the Carbon College WWII Memorial Roll, LLC room 108, that was dedicated in April 1946 in honor of the Carbon College students comprising of high school juniors and seniors and college freshmen and sophomores who lost their lives in the war.

In a fun, carnival atmosphere, "Town Ties" connects Eastern students to businesses in the city of Price while at the same time "tying" business owners to the vibrant student population. A free meal is also served to Eastern students by personnel from the business community in Carbon County.

The annual Connections Luminary will take place on Friday, August 28, at 8:30 p.m. New students: Bring your student ID and begin arriving at the Spectrum at 8:00 p.m. to join the procession to the Quad. Meeting
The Utah State University Faculty Senate is a central component of shared governance, represents the faculty in educational policy matters, including admissions, curricula, and degree requirements, while also considering faculty welfare and other issues of professional interest. It comprises elected faculty members, appointed administrators, and student officers, with broad authority to review policies, propose changes, and engage with the University's leadership on matters of importance. 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
Special Event
Join the USU Department of Public Safety for the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, held this year on the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks, in honor of the 2,977 lives lost and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. Participants will climb in remembrance of those who were lost and in tribute to the courage, service, and sacrifice of the first responders who climbed to save others. Presented in collaboration with the USU Veterans Resource Office and the Logan City Fire Department. Registration opens at 5 p.m. The first 400 individuals to register will receive a T-shirt. Stair Climb begins at 6 p.m.

The Roots of Sexual Violence in Utah: What Every Utahn Should Know
Panel Discussion/Presentation
As Utahns, we pride ourselves on strong families, close‑knit communities, and deep moral commitment — yet our state continues to report higher‑than‑national‑average rates of rape, child sexual abuse, and other forms of gender‑based harm. A recently released report written by Dr. Susan R. Madsen notes, “sexual violence in Utah is not an anomaly… it is a patterned, predictable outcome of cultural norms, social systems, and power structures that shape how people understand gender, authority, and worth.” This webinar brings that reality into the light. Dr. Susan R. Madsen will be joined by Dr. Julie Valentine, one of Utah’s leading researchers on sexual assault and forensic nursing, as well as Liliana Olvera‑Arbon, the executive director of the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault. In addition, executive directors from direct serve providers throughout the state will also be invited to share their insights about the report and make recommendations on next steps.

USU Libraries is excited to announce a return to Logan Tabernacle for the annual Arrington Lecture. Associate Professor of History Benjamin E. Park from Sam Houston State University will present, "Declarations of Interdependence Why the Latter-day Saints Just Can't Quit the United States." Dr. Park is an award-winning historian with a commitment to public scholarship. He is the current president of the Mormon History Association, author or editor of five books including, "Kingdom of Nauvoo: The Rise and Fall of a Religious Empire on the American Frontier" which won the Mormon History Association's Best Book Award, and "American Zion: A New History of Mormonism" which won the American Society of Church History's Philip Schaff Prize for the Best Book in the History of Christianity.

Utah Agricultural Products BBQ
Special Event
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Ag Day BBQ! The barbecue will feature Utah-grown beef, dairy products, pork, onion rings, salad, lamb, corn, apples, Creamies, and more. A collaboration between participating commodity groups, companies, and QANR, volunteers from commodity groups and the college prepare and serve the meal in an outdoor festival atmosphere where guests can try all sorts of delicious food. The event has become a beloved fall tradition at USU for the agricultural community, alumni, donors and friends. All proceeds, including your donation, go to the Utah Agricultural Leadership Endowment at USU to help train future generations of Utah’s farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness people through scholarship support.

Chamber Music Society of Logan presents Lysander Piano Trio

The Lysander Piano Trio has spent over a decade performing around the US with more than 100 appearances at notable venues including The Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, The Mostly Mozart Festival at David Geffen Hall, and a critically acclaimed recital at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. 51st Annual Honors Last Lecture
Lecture/Readings
Dr. Benjamin Burger, 2026 Honors Outstanding Professor from the Department of Water, Earth, and Environmental Sciences in the S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney College of Natural Resources, will deliver the 51st Annual Honors Last Lecture, “Beyond Extinction: The Prehistoric Past and Surviving the Future.” The lecture itself will explore stories about how we can use the fossil and rock record to understand both the fragility of life during times of dramatic change and the remarkable resilience of ecosystems through Earth’s history and talk about what it means for our shared future. Initiated in 1976, the Honors Last Lecture has become an important tradition for the Utah State University community. Each year, a committee of Honors students selects one Honors Outstanding Professor, whom they invite to deliver an imagined "Last Lecture," a talk that shares wisdom and insight with students and community members as if it were the professor's final chance to lecture at USU. A reception will follow in the lobby of the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. The livestream for a statewide audience and the recording of the event after its completion can be accessed from the Honors Program website.

"Alice in Wonderland" — An Evening of Opera Scenes by Student Composers

The opera adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland brings Alice’s whimsical journey to life through music, staging, and imaginative storytelling. Based on the beloved novel by Lewis Carroll, the opera follows Alice as she falls down a rabbit hole into a fantastical world filled with curious characters such as the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, and the Queen of Hearts. Through playful melodies, colorful costumes, and surreal scenes, the production captures the story’s sense of wonder, humor, and adventure while exploring themes of curiosity, imagination, and growing up.

Larry Smith Jazz Kicks Big Band

The Utah State University Music Department features The Legendary Larry Smith “Kicks Band” as it presents its Fall Concert playing the music of Sammy Nestico. This concert will present a full program focusing on the arrangements and original tunes of Sammy Nestico. Sammy Nestico has written and arranged over 300 selections and best known for known for his compositions and arrangements with the Count Basie Orchestra. From 1970 to 1984 he recorded ten original albums and won four Grammy Awards. His music will leave the audience with a great love of the big bands while focusing on rich melodies and familiar tunes in the various styles of swing, Latin, and funk. Some of the tunes performed that evening will include Wind Machine, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, Fascinating Rhythm, Tangerine, Sweet Georgia Brown, I’m Beginning to See the Light, The Joy of Cookin’, and A Warm Breeze.
The Kicks Band features guest vocalist Terresa Shreve singing tunes such as That Ol’ Devil Moon and Tangerine, in the vocal stylings of Anita O’Day. Soloists for the evening will include Nik Clark, Danny Hankins, Kelin Gibbons, Greg Wheeler, Jared Saunders, Roger Karen, Brian Baird, and others. This Nesitco focus will include music everyone can enjoy. The concert will be held in the Russell/ Wanlass Performance Hall on the USU campus Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. Please join us for this legendary performance of big band music in this special setting.

Chamber Music Society of Logan presents Borromeo String Quartet

Each visionary performance of the award-winning Borromeo String Quartet (BSQ) strengthens and deepens its reputation as one of the most important ensembles of our time.
Admired and sought-after for both its fresh interpretations of the classical music canon and its championing of works by twentieth- and twenty-first-century composers, the ensemble has been hailed for its “edge-of-the-seat performances,” by the Boston Globe, which called it “simply the best.”
The BSQ has collaborated with some of this generation’s most important composers, including John Cage, György Ligeti and Leon Kirchner, and has performed on major concert stages across the globe, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie and Wigmore Hall.

The Utah State University Faculty Senate is a central component of shared governance, represents the faculty in educational policy matters, including admissions, curricula, and degree requirements, while also considering faculty welfare and other issues of professional interest. MUSES

The word "muse" describes a source of inspiration. This annual music therapy concert aims to highlight the multi-faceted sources of inspiration for USU music therapy students both personally and professionally. In our field of study, we often talk about “self as instrument”, or rather, being the instrument of change within the therapeutic relationship. During MUSES, we get to shift our focus to also celebrate our external musical skills and instruments as extensions of ourselves, and the tools by which we get to share creative self-expression with the world. Concert goers will enjoy original compositions in addition to contemporary and classical pieces that have been intentionally chosen to represent the experiences of our students and potential clinical applications of these works in music therapy practice. Music Therapy Senior Gala

Join us in celebrating the remarkable talents and hard-earned skills of Utah State University’s music therapy seniors as they take the stage for their annual Senior Gala concert. This event will showcase the student's musicality, professionalism, and flexibility as they perform 1-2 pieces from a repertoire of 60 songs memorized for their fourth-level Clinical Qualifying Exam. Adding to the excitement, the concert program is unknown to the students in advance—performers and audience members discover each piece together in the moment. The Senior Gala promises to be an inspiring evening that celebrates these seniors' achievements as they move toward becoming qualified, compassionate music therapists.

Chamber Music Society of Logan presents Akropolis Reed Quintet

Founded in 2009, the GRAMMY® Award-winning Akropolis Reed Quintet is “a sonically daring ensemble who specializes in performing new works with charisma and integrity” (BBC Music Magazine). Comprising five reed players and entrepreneurs unbounded by limits or categorization, Akropolis has graced the Classical Billboard Charts with each of their last three albums, including #2 in April, 2024, and has won seven national chamber music prizes including the 2014 Fischoff Gold Medal. Having premiered and commissioned more than 200 works by living artists and composers, they are pioneers and champions of a new genre of classical music—the reed quintet.

What can you program after late Beethoven?
The FSQ continues its journey toward a complete cycle of Beethoven’s late string quartets in fall 2028 with Op. 127—a work of extraordinary spaciousness, intimacy, and invention. And then: Enescu. Written when the composer was only nineteen, his monumental String Octet seems to ask how much farther eight string players can possibly go. Sweeping, youthful, virtuosic, and almost orchestral in scale, it is one of the rare works audacious enough to follow late Beethoven.

Concerts are part of the band large ensemble curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. Science Unwrapped - Science in Stage Effects
Panel Discussion/Presentation
Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped at USU, the public STEM outreach program of USU's College of Arts and Sciences. Admission is free. The evening begins at 7 p.m. in ESLC 130 with a brief talk, followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments in the ESLC atrium. Featured speaker for February 26 is video artist and projection designer Dr. Joshua Legate, assistant professor in USU's Department of Theatre Arts.

Larry Smith Jazz Kicks Big Band

The Utah State University Music Department features The Legendary Larry Smith “Kicks Band” as it presents its Spring Concert playing the music of Buddy Rich. The program will focus on the music of the great American drummer, songwriter, conductor, and band leader Buddy Rich. He is considered one of the most influential drummers fo all time. With this focus the Kicks Band will focus on some of the great recordings of the Buddy Rich Big Band. Tunes such as Time Check, Wind Machine, Big Swing Face, Nutville, Dancing Men, Cape Veridan Blues, Groove Merchant, You Rotten Kid, and Love For Sale, provide a sample of the great big band music for the evening. Special feature for the evening will be the drum stylings of Mr. Danny Hankins as he provides the “Buddy Rich drumming essence” for this evening of big band jazz. Other soloists will include Nik Clark, Danny Hankins, Kelin Gibbons, Greg Wheeler, Jared Saunders, Roger Karen, Brian Baird, and others. The Kicks Band will also feature the beautiful vocal stylings of guest vocalist Terresa Shreve. The concert will be held in the Russell/ Wanlass Performance Hall on the USU campus Tuesday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. Please join us for this legendary performance of big band music in this special setting.

The FSQ@USU season closes with three works that reach toward memory, home, loss, and what endures.
Brittany J. Green’s Lead Me Home, for strings and electronics, draws upon Thomas Dorsey’s hymn “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” allowing fragments of familiar material to emerge through shimmering strings and ethereal electronic sound. Aakash Mittal’s Living Memory, written for the Fry Street Quartet in response to the creatures and habitats of the Sundarbans, returns in a newly expanded version incorporating film, heard here for the first time.
At the center of Beethoven’s Op. 132 lies one of the most profound movements in the quartet repertoire: his Heiliger Dankgesang—a “Holy Song of Thanksgiving” written after recovering from serious illness. Across centuries and vastly different sound worlds, these three works listen backward and forward at once, asking what we carry, what we lose, and what might extend beyond us.

Science Unwrapped - Sustaining the Arctic
Panel Discussion/Presentation
Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped at USU, the public STEM outreach program of USU's College of Arts and Sciences. Admission is free. The evening begins at 7 p.m. in ESLC 130 with a brief talk, followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments in the ESLC atrium. Featured speaker for April 2 is science communicator and USU alumna, Dr. Cana Itchuaquiyaq, director of the Center for Sustainable Engagement in the Arctic at Virginia Tech University.

The USU Guitar Ensembles Concert will showcase USU guitar students playing a variety of styles ranging from rock, funk, jazz, classical and other genres on both acoustic and electric guitars. The Guitar Ensembles Concert has been a tradition at USU for over 35 years and brings a unique and varied sound to the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall.

String Chamber Music - Spring Recital

Each semester, students form new chamber music projects and prepare their repertoire under the guidance of the Fry Street Quartet, with additional masterclasses from the guest artists of the Chamber Music Society of Logan.

Symphonic Band

Concerts are part of the band large ensemble curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. Cache Symphony Orchestra Concert

The Cache Symphony Orchestra, a community ensemble that brings together musicians from across Cache Valley and students from Utah State University, presents its annual Youth Concerto Competition Winners Concert. This special performance will feature three outstanding young soloists selected through the orchestra’s annual competition, alongside orchestral works by Brahms, Shostakovich, and more.
The concert celebrates both the next generation of talented musicians and the rich tradition of symphonic music.

The American Festival Chorus & Orchestra concludes its 19th season with a celebration of favorite choral classics from its first nineteen years and the world premiere of a major new four-movement work by Mack Wilberg for chorus, orchestra, children’s choir, and handbells. Commissioned to honor the final season of founder and Music Director Dr. Craig Jessop, this landmark work celebrates AFCO’s enduring artistic legacy throughout Cache Valley and the Intermountain West.
