Dropping or Withdrawing from a Concurrent Enrollment Course

Concurrent Enrollment (CE) students can drop or withdraw from a course depending on how much of the course has been completed. Specific add/drop and withdrawal dates for each term are posted on the Concurrent Enrollment home page.

Before 20% of the Course Is Completed: Drop

The add/drop deadline is 20% of the course.

If you drop a CE course before the 20% deadline:

  • You will be removed from the USU course.
  • The course will not appear on your USU transcript.

If you decide you no longer want to take a CE course, you should also work with your high school to remove the course from your high school class schedule.

Between 20% and 60% of the course: Withdraw or Late Add

After the 20% add/drop deadline and before the 60% withdrawal deadline, students may request to withdraw from a course or late add a course, as applicable.

To withdraw from a course:

  1. Log in to the USU CE registration system and attempt to drop the course.
  2. Your drop request will notify the USU Concurrent Enrollment Office that you are requesting to withdraw.
  3. The CE Office will administratively withdraw you from the course.
  4. A W (withdrawal) will be placed on your USU transcript.
  5. You will receive an email from the CE Office confirming that you have been withdrawn from the course.

After you are withdrawn from the USU CE course, the course should not appear on your high school transcript. You will also need to work with your high school to update your class schedule and remove the CE course.

What happens when you withdraw from a course?

  • You will still be responsible for tuition and any other textbook/digital materials charges. These charges will not be refunded when you withdraw.
  • A W does not lower your GPA.
  • However, a W counts as a course you attempted but did not complete. This may lower your completion rate, which is the percentage of the credits you attempt that you successfully complete.

Adding a course after the add/drop deadline

  • If you want to add a CE course after 20% of the course has been completed, you must follow the late-add process.
  • Late adds are only allowed before 60% of the course has been completed and require the appropriate approvals.

After 60% of the course is completed

  • Once 60% of the course has been completed, you can no longer withdraw from the course through the regular withdrawal process.
  • If you stay enrolled in the course, you will receive a final grade based on the work you completed.
  • After the 60% deadline, a withdrawal is only considered if you have a qualifying extenuating circumstance. You must submit a petition through the appropriate USU process on the Concurrent Enrollment form, and approval is not guaranteed.
