About This Certificate

The Natural Resources and Environmental Communication and Engagement (NRECE) Certificate offers graduate students the opportunity to build and demonstrate skills for collaborating with community partners and communicating with diverse audiences for enhanced environmental and natural resource outcomes.

Certificate completion can enhance a variety of masters and doctoral degree at USU to increase competitiveness in the job market and effectiveness in environmental and natural resource related careers.

What You Will Learn

Through graduate coursework and a capstone project, students gain knowledge and skills in environmental communication and engagement with diverse entities. Students can emphasis either or both of these components.

Outcomes focus on a broad range of communication strategies within the knowledge and action domains of natural resource management and the socio-ecological and environmental sciences. The program emphasizes a collaborative approach to working with communities and other partners or entities to improve how environmental science communication and engagement occurs.

Students choose from available graduate-level courses with communication and engagement content both within and beyond the Department of Environment and Society. The capstone can be completed either as a part of a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation or can be a separate project.
