The Utah Geospatial Consortium (UGC) was founded in 2019 and is based on the campus of Utah State University in Logan, Utah. We're an informal grouping of faculty and researchers at USU whose work incorporates any and all aspects of mapping, geospatial science, geographic information systems, and geomatics. Based in the Quinney College of Natural Resources, the Consortium is striving to improve geospatial and GIS research and teaching across the Logan campus and statewide through USU’s distance education and extension programs.
As part of this effort, we coordinate the Graduate Certificate in GIS, provide a web hub for information on geospatially-oriented courses and faculty research across the USU campus, and offer short in-person and web-based tutorials in spatial data science.
What We Do
In short, our goal is to bring visibility to the wide array of spatial science happening at USU, in the process increasing educational opportunities for students and forging collaborations between faculty, researchers, students, and the public. We achieve this goal by:
- Helping students identify and obtain internships and employment in spatial science fields
- Conducting short courses and workshops aimed at increasing spatial science literacy for the USU population and the general public
- Making USU geospatial course materials freely available online to anyone interested in learning or improving their spatial skillset
