2023 Photo Contest Rules

For a quick overview, the steps are: 1) Submit up to 2 photos on Insta that will be considered for both the judges and people’s choice awards, by tagging us @utahstateglobal and using the #aggiesabroad, 2) like your favorite posts on #aggiesabroad, 3) have a chance to win a prize!
Details
Do you have amazing pictures from your Study Abroad that you want to share with the world? Enter them into the USU Study Abroad photo contest for a chance to win a prize and to have your photo displayed on the Study Abroad website!
We will be accepting photo entries for any USU Study Abroad program running between fall 2022 through the end of the fall of ‘23 (August 2022 – November 2023), with the criteria listed below:
- Must have been taken on a study abroad program facilitated by USU (including internships, independent, exchange, direct, and faculty-led programs)
- Must have been taken during the duration of the program or in any interim travel during programs (this does not include vacation or personal travel abroad that is not within the program dates)
- Content of the photo must be school appropriate
- If the photo includes any non-USU students, be sure you have their permission to enter the photo into the contest
Each student will be allowed to submit a maximum of 2 photos. There are 2 categories: the Judges’ Choice Award and People’s Choice Award. The Judges’ Choice Award will be judged by a committee of USU Global Engagement staff. The people’s Choice Award will be judged based on the Instagram post with the most likes (so be sure to share it with you friends!)
Subject Matter
There are no restrictions on the subject matter of your photo as long as they comply with the guidelines stated above. We encourage you to be creative with your submissions and to capture the local ambience and style of your location abroad. We also encourage wearing USU Aggie swag abroad, but it’s not necessary.
Submission and Deadlines
How to enter your photo:
- Post your photo(s) on Instagram
- Tag us (@utahstateglobal) and use the #aggiesabroad
- Make sure your profile is set to public so we can see your photos
- Up to 2 photos taken during your study abroad/exchange period will be accepted and considered for the Judges/People’s Choice Awards
- Complete and submit the COPYRIGHT RELEASE form below.
The submission deadline for the photo contest is November 1st, and the winner will be announced during the Global Engagement Scholar Symposium during the USU International Education Week, November 10. We will also announce winners on our Instagram page.
Winners will be contacted through Instagram and asked to email studyabroad@usu.edu and provide their A-number, full name, location of study abroad, photo title, and a brief description or quote about the photo, as well as the original photo file.
COPYRIGHT RELEASE FORM
For good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged, I (the undersigned), for the purpose of publicizing USU programs or for any other lawful purpose, hereby grant to Utah State University and its photographers, videographers, editors, contractors, agents, representatives, employees, and assigns (collectively, “USU”), the irrevocable and unrestricted right to use, publish, alter, edit, or manipulate the photograph(s)/video(s) set forth in Appendix A (“Copyrighted Materials”) in any manner and medium without restriction, my inspection, or my approval. I represent and warrant that I am the original author of the Copyrighted Materials and that I possess all rights necessary to enter into this agreement.
I hereby voluntarily release and forever discharge USU from all claims and liability relating to said Copyrighted Materials. By checking the box below it indicates that I have read this entire agreement, understand that it affects my legal rights, and understand that it waives my right to sue USU.

Video Contest 2018 Details
Students were given the following questions and crieteria for the video contest.How did your study abroad influence you? Did you have moments that changed your perspective? Did you make lifelong friends? Create a video about your study abroad experience telling us how you were impacted professionally, academically or personally.
Video Guidelines
- Length: No more than 2 minutes.
- Deadline: Sunday, November 11, 2018.
- Submissions: Submit your video through the upload form on this page.
Rules
- Make it clean and family friendly.
- If you include music, make sure it is royalty-free. Do not include songs that are copyrighted. We can't share on YouTube if we don't have copyright clearance for the music. Entries with commercial music will not be eligible. Resources for royalty-free sources are listed below:
- YouTube Audio Library
- Creative Commons
- Music you have composed and created.
- Feature yourself or other Aggies and the place(s) and program you participated during your studies abroad.
- Must be a current USU student who studied abroad anytime between Summer 2017 and Fall 2018.
Ideas for Video Content
- Share your experiences such as trying foreign food, cultural dancing, traditions, the locals in your country, service opportunities and more.
- Include other students, faculty or people around you.
- Make it your own, the content is up to you.
- One submission per student.
Prizes
Judges' Choice: Videos will be judged by a committee of Global Engagement staff and ambassadors.
Prize: Two tickets to Walker Cinemas, valid at any Walker Cinema Theatre in Logan, Perry, Brigham City and Ogden locations. One large take-and-bake pizza from Papa Murphy's, valid at Logan and Providence locations.People's Choice: Winner chosen by popular vote at the International Film Night during International Education Week, November 16, 7:00 PM at the International Loung.
Prize: Two tickets to Cinefour Movie Theatres, valid at any Walker Cinema Theatre in Perry, Brigham City, Logan.
One large take-and-bake pizza from Papa Murphy's, valid at Logan and Providence locations.
