Medical Insurance Plans & Networks

USU works with Blue Cross Blue Shield to offer two (2) medical networks and three (3) medical insurance plans to choose from. These plans are available to benefited and ACA eligible employees.

Dental Plan

USU works with Blue Cross Blue Shield to offer a dental plan to all benefit eligible employees.

Health Savings Account: WEX

An HSA is a triple-tax-advantaged account where your contributions, account earnings, and qualified withdrawals are tax-free. It is an individual account specifically for qualified medical expenses. USU partners with WEX, an industry leader in HSA administration, for this benefit.

Flexible Spending Account: WEX

Employees may allocate a portion of monthly earnings, pre-tax, to be used for health expenses and dependent care expenses, which can result in substantial tax savings.

EyeMed

EyeMed is a supplemental vision plan for USU Benefit Eligible employees. EyeMed offers in-network options including: LensCrafter, Sears Optical, Target Optical, JCPenney Optical and most Pearle Vision locations. They also include many independent vision care providers.

Hinge Health

Relieve joint and muscle pain with personalized exercise therapy at no cost to you. Your family may be eligible, too. Hinge Health is part of your Utah State University benefits through Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah.

Special Enrollment for Life Events (birth, marriage, etc.)

If you experience a qualifying life event you, your spouse and any eligible children may enroll or drop coverage within 30 days of that event. Keep in mind that the change in enrollment must be consistent with the event (e.g. if you lose coverage you cannot drop insurance, only add it).

COBRA

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives workers and their families who lose their health benefits the right to choose to continue group health benefits provided by their group health plan for limited periods of time under certain circumstances such as voluntary or involuntary job loss, reduction in the hours worked, transition between jobs, death, divorce, and other life events.
