Summary

Incumbents in the Coordinator Service series provide a diverse range of customer service and/or routine general services and support to a specified department or area. Incumbents may perform clerical services, equipment operation, basic maintenance and repair, materials handling, logistical support, and/or other related duties in accordance with the day-to-day requirements of the specified department or area.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Coordinator Service II is distinguished from the Coordinator Service I in that incumbents in the II level perform duties in a larger program, department, or area.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

The Coordinator Service II typically reports to a Program Coordinator, Manager, or Director. This classification may train and guide part-time and/or student employees.

Typical Functions


  1. May oversee the day-to-day operations of a small retail, dining area, service program, or a subsidiary department.
  2. May update and maintain operations manuals.
  3. Orders and maintains inventory.
  4. May assist with development of menus.
  5. Maintains cleanliness of assigned area.
  6. Participates in meetings as required.
  7. Ensures proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  8. Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  9. Hires, trains, and guides part-time and/or student employees.
  10. Maintains relationships and coordinates special projects with University staff, students, and the general public.
  11. May manage cash, deposits, and Point of Sale system.
  12. May coordinate the merchandising and marketing for assigned area.
  13. May coordinate events and activities.
  14. Provides high-quality customer service.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Field specific knowledge, skills, and abilities as described in recruitment notice.
  2. Skilled with basic office equipment, including printers, copiers, and telephone systems.
  3. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  4. Knowledge of inventory management procedures.
  5. Ability to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  6. Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
  7. Ability to resolve difficult or stressful customer service issues.
  8. Basic computer skills, including MS Word and MS Excel.
  9. Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures.
  10. Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  11. Skilled in organizing and coordinating the training and work of others.
  12. Ability to take initiative and work without close supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience or an associate degree/vocational training is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees may work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. Employees often use repetitive hand motions and may be required to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) for distances greater than five feet. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions, such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting.
