Summary
Incumbents in the Data Analyst series collect, evaluate, and prepare research and/or other complex statistical data. Incumbents prepare statistical and narrative reports and recommendations, and participate in the analysis and interpretation of data as appropriate. Incumbents develop, maintain, and ensure quality control of databases and may assist in the development and implementation of measurement systems.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Data Analyst SR is distinguished from the Data Analyst III in that incumbents in the Senior-level perform work in a department that serves the entire University, rather than a single college or department. Such work typically requires a broader scope of knowledge and experience, ability to perform more complex work, and knowledge of analytical tools taught in graduate level courses.
Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities
The Data Analyst Senior reports to a Director, Manager, or Department Head. This classification may oversee employees.
Typical Functions
- Collects, analyzes, interprets, and summarizes data in preparation for generation of statistical and analytical reports.
- Maintains computerized collection and tracking of relevant data.
- Maintains appropriate records of research methods and results.
- Designs and/or develops specific databases for collection, tracking, and reporting of data, as appropriate.
- Utilizes specified statistical software to analyze and interpret research data.
- Serves as a liaison with outside departments.
- Submits written and/or oral reports as requested.
- Serves on committees as requested.
- Develops surveys and interview protocols.
- Distributes, tracks and coordinates online surveys as required.
- Oversees employees as assigned.
- Provides troubleshooting and technical assistance to project staff.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

- Records maintenance skills.

- Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
- Ability to prepare research reports and proposals.
- Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.

- Knowledge of research methodology, principles, and procedures.

- Ability to manage and complete numerous cyclical projects.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
A Doctorate degree or Master’s degree with three (3) years of experience in data collection in a professional or higher education capacity is required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
