Summary
Incumbents in the Design Assistant position provide graphic, multimedia, and/or instructional design services as well as administrative support to a college and/or department.
Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities
The Design Assistant reports to an Instructional Designer or Manager. This classification has no supervisory responsibility
Typical Functions
- Creates and designs pamphlets, flyers, posters, programs, reports, and newsletters.
- Documents, via video and photography, research activities, events, etc.
- Edits film and photos for use by college and departments.
- Creates and edits power point presentations as assigned.
- May work with faculty to create instructional materials.
- Manages instructional design projects.
- May maintain webpages for colleges, departments, and/or programs.
- May conduct training workshops.
- Maintains multimedia equipment.
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with customers to ensure timely, effective support and efficient delivery of multimedia services.
- Performs audio mixing and recording.
- May perform general office duties, including scheduling, answering calls and emails, and assisting students, faculty, and staff.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design.
- Ability to create and produce graphic materials using a range of media, methods, techniques, and equipment.
- Knowledge of graphic layout and photographic requirements and procedures.
- Knowledge of software applications for authoring, training design, and web-based development.
- Ability to work within a course management system.
- Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements.
- Knowledge of printing and/or reproduction processes and techniques.
- Proofreading and editing skills.
- Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Minimum Qualifications
Aptitude is required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
