Summary
Incumbents in the Instructional Technology Specialist I position design, install, program, maintain and evaluate technology for use in/at classrooms, events, special lectures, and meetings.
Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities
The Instructional Technology Specialist I typically reports to a Director. This classification has no supervisory responsibilities.
Typical Functions
- Designs, installs, programs, maintains, and evaluates classroom technology.
- Serves as subject matter expert for classroom facilitators and faculty.
- Develops training materials.
- Troubleshoots IVC equipment, including Cisco systems, Crestron devices, audio systems, laptops, and cameras.
- Coordinates with faculty as technology issues arise.
- Maintains infrastructure records for classroom equipment, including inventory, adherence to codes, specifications, and University standards.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expert knowledge of classroom broadcast equipment.
- Ability to find creative and novel approaches to problems.
- Skilled at computers and software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of videoconferencing, networks, and equipment (cameras, projectors, audio systems, etc.).
- Knowledge of mobile technologies.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to create reports.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to learn new systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in IT field plus two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. Employees are frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. Employees must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds and retrieve and transport audiovisual equipment.
