Library Manager - Operational

Summary
Primarily responsible for the success of a major library operation or service. May also be responsible for the supervision of full-time benefited staff and/or hourly staff. The position reports directly to a faculty member or administrator. This classification is a lead contributor to the development of library policies, procedures, and development of its assigned library workflow or service. May serve in an advisory capacity to faculty members and administration. May have additional responsibilities for serving on or leading collaborative groups outside of its unit or program and may also have service commitments for the University or profession.
Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities
This position reports to a faculty member or administrator. This classification may be responsible for the supervision of full-time benefited staff and/or hourly staff.
Typical Functions
- Manages the day-to-day operations of assigned area.
- Forecasts, develops, and implements best practices, policies, and procedures related to a specified area of library service.
- Ensures service or workflow quality through activities such as resolving most complex problems, collecting, and analyzing statistics, coordinating with other library/campus departments, and maintaining subject matter expertise.
- Works independently and provides expertise to execute the services or workflows in a specialized area of the library.
- Stays current with technological and theoretical advancements in library science to adapt, adopt, or update library practices and services.
- May develop and promote new and existing services, collections, and resources to students, University departments, and community members.
- May facilitate cooperative and collaborative community or institutional relationships. Participates in Library-, University-wide, or external committees to establish service or collection standards.
- May coordinate and/or provide quality control for services or workflows through appropriate staff scheduling, training, assessment, and internal communication.
- May provide training, instruction, liaison services and/or consultation to students, faculty, and/or staff in the use of specialized services.
- May calculate and prepare monthly budget reports.
- May supervise full-time and hourly staff.

- Skilled in developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

- Skilled at records maintenance.
- Database management skills.
- Knowledge of office management principles and procedures.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
- Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
- Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise judgment.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant field; bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience; or an associate degree plus four years of experience; or six years of experience in a library;
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. Employees nearly continuously sit, hear, listen, and talk. Often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing) and walking.
