Summary

Incumbents in the Nurse RN (Exempt) position perform health and developmental assessments on behalf of the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University.  Incumbents use discretion and judgement to determine program eligibility, develop intervention plans, and provide referrals as appropriate.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

The Nurse RN reports to a Director.  This classification has no supervisory responsibility.

Typical Functions

1. Independently obtains detailed health and developmental histories and performs physical assessments.
2. Maintains, evaluates, and interprets cumulative health data and summarizes findings.
3. Maintains accurate and detailed reports/records.
4. Performs vision and hearing screenings and interprets accurately.
5. Performs or assists in procedural care requiring complex nursing skills and clinical judgment.
6. Consults and coordinates with team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client’s treatment and progress.
7. Plans, facilitates, and provides community outreach and/or educational activities within area of specialty to patients, families, health care staff, faculty, and students.
8. Travels to various locations to administer services.
9. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
10. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and/or workshops.
11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

3. Ability to perform work requiring advanced knowledge, such as work that is predominately intellectual in character and requires the exercise of discretion and judgment.
4. Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration.
5. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
6. Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
7. Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
8. Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
9. Advanced nursing skills in area of specialty.
10. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
11. Ability to adhere to University policies and nursing procedures, standards, and practices
12. Ability to travel to deliver services.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  This position requires moderate physical activity, including the handling of heavy weight objects up to 50 pounds and/or standing or walking more than four hours per day.  The work environment may involve exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following safety precautions.
