Summary

Incumbents in the Physical Therapist position perform duties related to improving physical mobility, relieving pain, and increasing strength of patients.  Incumbents administer evaluations, develop individual service plans, and collaborate with team members to counsel patients and families with the goal to enhance and improve outcomes.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

The Physical Therapist reports directly to the Program Coordinator.  Incumbents may supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Typical Functions

1. Conducts and documents initial, ongoing, and discharge assessments in collaboration with appropriate team members.
2. Identifies and documents goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
3. Analyzes patient data and medical history to develop individualized service plans.
4. Provides therapy, education, and training for patients and their families.
5. Collaborates with professionals from other disciplines as needed to ensure quality of care.
6. Evaluates patient outcomes to determine effectiveness of treatments and counseling.
7. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infectious control methods.
8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Ability to maintain professional affiliations needed to supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
2. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
3. Ability to observe, assess, and record progress.
4. Knowledge of current physical therapy practices and research.
5. Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat physical therapy injuries and/or disabilities.
6. Skilled in preparing and maintaining patient records.
7. Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
8. Ability to apply deductive reasoning skills.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid Utah Physical Therapy license and master’s degree or doctorate degree from an institution accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  This position requires moderate physical activity, including the handling of objects up to 25 pounds and/or standing or walking more than one hour per day.
