Summary

Incumbents in the Webmaster series develop and maintain websites for a program, department, and/or college. Incumbents create and curate web pages, ensure that content is up to date and accurate, monitor website use and trends, and ensure that the visual identity and strategic priorities of the department, college, or program are reflected

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Webmaster II is distinguished from the Webmaster I in that incumbents in the II level support a college, including the programs and departments within the college; while the Webmaster I supports a department.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

This classification trains and guides student, hourly, and/or benefitted employees.

Typical Functions

  1. Manages existing website, including updates to academic information, news, research, special events, etc.
  2. Implements improved design, layout, and functionality of website.
  3. Reviews, monitors, and updates the navigation architecture to improve load times.
  4. Develops code and styling to improve appearance and functionality.
  5. Develops new web pages and temporary special event sites and pages.
  6. Monitors usage analytics and implements strategies to improve search engine results.
  7. Codes websites using HTML or other web-based programming languages.
  8. Works closely with department and/or program personnel to gather content material for pages.
  9. Provides training for users as requested.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Skilled at project management.
  2. Skilled at proofreading and editing.
  3. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of current authoring languages, editing and authoring tools, and related website technologies.
  5. Skilled in computer graphics and layout.
  6. Ability to evaluate new and evolving website technologies.
  7. Skilled in the use of computerized page layout and design software.
  8. Ability to create and analyze reports.
  9. Knowledge and understanding of internet operations and functionality, and of a wide range of internet programming and design tools.
  10. Ability to update and maintain data in Microsoft SQL server.
  11. Ability to manage deadlines.
  12. Knowledge of html, dhtml, css, JavaScript, PHP, web page creation, and website maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
