Summary

This is a single incumbent classification which is responsible for the management and development of Utah State University’s website. The incumbent provides vision, leadership, and direction, as well as creative and technical expertise, to leverage the Internet as a communications and marketing tool for the university in support of the university’s mission and goals.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Webmaster Lead is distinguished from the Webmaster III in that the incumbent Webmaster Lead assists the Executive Director of Public Relations and Marketing in anticipating and addressing Utah State University’s information needs in support of its academic mission, research efforts, and recruitment and marketing communications.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

The Webmaster Lead reports to an Executive Director. This classification may train and guide less senior employees.

Typical Functions

  1. Maintains and manages online content, including the University homepage, Utah State University Today, the university calendar, online directory, social media directory, etc.
  2. Performs content updates for several websites, including the Provost Office, President’s Office, and Board of Trustees.
  3. Develops graphic content for the homepage and secondary level pages.
  4. Reviews, monitors, and updates the navigation architecture of the university homepage and secondary levels.
  5. Monitors analytics on the main university website.
  6. Designs, develops, and maintains web applications to support some of the university’s essential needs, including Degree Finder content management system, university calendar content management system, and the online campus map content management system.
  7. Coordinates the university’s general marketing and branding efforts in relation to the world wide web by overseeing the visual identity for the web, designing, developing, and maintaining the university web templates, and establishing and maintaining the university web guidelines.
  8. Provides assistance and reviews campus unit websites regarding branding and web identity.
  9. Works in close collaboration with the IT PAD team to achieve web marketing and branding goals.
  10. Assists campus units in the development and maintenance of their websites
  11. Researches, plans, and develops new online functionalities that benefit the university community.
  12. Researches the need for new technology and functionalities within the university website.
  13. Researches new trends in web development and web design.
  14. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Skilled at project management.
  2. Skilled at proofreading and editing.
  3. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of current authoring languages, editing and authoring tools, and related website technologies.
  5. Skilled in computer graphics and layout.
  6. Ability to evaluate new and evolving website technologies.
  7. Skilled in the use of computerized page layout and design software.
  8. Ability to create and analyze reports.
  9. Knowledge and understanding of internet operations and functionality, and of a wide range of internet programming and design tools.
  10. Ability to update and maintain data in Microsoft SQL server.
  11. Ability to manage deadlines.
  12. Knowledge of html, dhtml, css, JavaScript, PHP, web page creation, and website maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

10 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
