Welcome to the Stat 2000 Webpage. This page contains news and
additional information regarding this class that becomes
available during the semester.
It is updated whenever
new dates, times, or other information become available.
This course closely follows Moore/McCabe (1998) as described
in the syllabus.
And here are the news:
- 0)
Lecture Notes.
- 1) Stat 2000 Curriculum Fall 2002.
(8/19/2002)
- 2) Statistics is fun! If you don't think so, better check this
Web site first:

(8/19/2002)
- 3) Homework 1 (due 9/11/2002).
(9/4/2002)
- 4) Tutoring Labs.
(9/5/2002)
- 5) Homework 2 (due 9/18/2002).
(9/11/2002)
- 6) Homework 3 (due 9/25/2002).
(9/18/2002)
- 7) Homework 4 (due 10/2/2002 - but recommended
before Friday as a preparation for Midterm 1).
(9/23/2002)
- 8) Here are
Midterm 1 and the
solutions for Midterm 1
from the last Stat 2000
course I taught at Utah State University in the Fall of 2001.
That course was very similar to our course. However,
I may have added something or omitted something
when comparing our course with the Fall 2001 course.
Exams may also not be matching entirely since there is
some variation on the time needed to cover a particular
topic in class such that it can happen that something may
show up in Midterm 1 one year and only in Midterm 2 the other year.
(9/23/2002)
- 9) The help session (for Midterm 1) will take place
on Thursday 9/26/2002 from 4pm to 5pm in Geology 302.
And don't forget Midterm 1
this Friday, 9/27/2002,
from 8:30am to 9:20am in our regular classroom.
(9/23/2002)
- 10) You are allowed to use a calculator and
a 2-sided note sheet for the midterm exams and the final.
You are not allowed to use the textbook
and the full set of lecture notes and handouts.
A normal table will be provided.
(9/25/2002)
- 11) Finally, here is the
solution to Question 3 of Homework 3
(the WebStat question).
(9/27/2002)
- 12) Homework 5 (due 10/9/2002).
(10/2/2002)
- 13) Homework 6 (due 10/16/2002).
(10/9/2002)
- 14) Here are
Midterm 2,
solutions for Midterm 2,
Final, and
solutions for Final
from the last Stat 2000
course I taught at Utah State University in the Fall of 2001.

(10/14/2002)
- 16) Homework 8 (due 10/30/2002).
(10/23/2002)
- 17) The help session (for Midterm 2) will take place
on Thursday 10/31/2002 from 3pm to 5pm in Business 315.
And don't forget Midterm 2
this Friday, 11/1/2002,
from 8:30am to 9:20am in our regular classroom.
(10/28/2002)
- 18) Homework 9 (due 11/6/2002 - but recommended

(10/28/2002)

[sorry - I got it ready on Monday and then forgot
to post it on the Web :-[ (11/8/2002)
- 20) Homework 11 (due 11/20/2002).
(11/11/2002)
- 21) Homework 12 (due 12/2/2002).
(11/18/2002)

(12/2/2002)
- 24) Still grading the Final on Sunday 12/15/02, 11pm...
Give me at least another 24 hours to finish. Grades will
hopefully be posted here late on Monday or early on Tuesday
morning. Sorry for the delay...
(12/15/02)
- 25) Here are the scores for Homework 1 through 13,
the sum of the 12 best Homeworks,
Midterm 1 & 2, the Final,
and the TOTAL and GRADE:
Stat 2000, Section 001 SCORES.
There is no name, SSN, or any other identification on this page.
You need to know (or guess) what your scores for Midterm 1 & 2
are to identify your TOTAL and GRADE.
If you cannot identify yourself or if some numbers are incorrect,
please e-mail me as soon as possible. However, you have to provide
me with your original Midterm or Homework (just claiming you had 10
more points in a particular Homework is not enough - you really
have to show me this score).
The final was worth 30% of the overall grade.
This means that 300 points was the maximum possible score
in the final. Overall, there was a maximum of 1000 points
to be obtained this semester.
Final grade cutoffs were similar to the cutoffs used throughout
the semester for the Midterms. This means:
below 50%: F, above 50%: D, above 56%: D+, above 62%: C-, above 67%: C,
above 70%: C+, above 74%: B-, above 79%: B, above 82%: B+, above 86%: A-,
and above 88%: A. I typically awarded the next higher grade if
someone was within 1 to 3 points of the next highest cutoff,
e.g., 858 = 85.8% was still an A- (and not a B+).
Please e-mail in case of any questions.
