Fall Semester 2024 | Undergraduate Positions

The application window for Fall 2024 semester for recitation leaders and tutors is closed.

We have completed our hiring for recitation leaders and tutors for Fall 2024. We may be hiring positions for graders and other undergraduate help later in the summer. If you are interested in one of those positions, please complete the hiring interest survey below for a Math / Stats Teaching Fellow Position. If those positions open up, we will email you.

If you are interested in positions for Spring 2025 as a tutor or recitation leader, please complete the hiring interest survey for the Spring 2025 semester (see links below). We will email  you when the application window opens (planned for October 2024).

Recitation Leaders
Recitation Leaders supplement the learning done in large lecture classes by conducting recitation sessions for students in those classes. Recitation leaders work with faculty members in providing instruction in a formalized classroom setting to students at a more individual level. They also hold office hours with students, and often grade coursework and exams. Instructors often recommend students to work as recitation leaders.

Tutors
Tutors work with students in the Aggie Math Learning Center (AMLC) to assist with their homework in their mathematics or statistics classes. Tutors normally have completed several university math or statistics classes. They must be able to tutor all first and second year mathematics or statistics classes. Students from all majors can work as tutors provided they meet the minimum requirements.

Math/Stat Teaching Fellows
Math / Stat Teaching Fellow (MSTF) responsibilities vary based on department and instructor needs. Responsibilities may include assisting an instructor by holding office hours, facilitating review and study sessions, grading course work, or assisting in course develpment. MSTFs are often requested by name by instructors for specific courses or responsibilities.

General Undergraduate Employee Requirements
All students applying for employment with the Aggie Math Learning Center should meet the minimum following requirements:
  • Cumulative grade point average | 3.2
  • Semesters before graduation | 2 Minimum (4+ is preferred)

Recitation Leader Qualifications

Rectitation leaders should meet all of the following qualifications by the time they will be employed by the Aggie Math Learning Center:

Mathematics Recitation Leader

  • Completed Calculus One • Math 1210 (or higher)
  • Completed the course that the recitation is for with at least an A-
  • B+ or higher grade in majority of math classes
  • B+ or higher grade in most recent math class
  • Minimum six (6) hours of university level mathematics / statistics

Statistics Recitation Leader

  • Completed Stats 3000 or higher
  • Only Stats 1040/1045 is required if applying as a recitation leader for Stats 1040/1045
  • Completed the course that the recitation is for with at least an A-
  • B+ or higher grade in majority of stats classes
  • B+ or higher grade in most recent stats class
  • Minimum of six (6)  hours of university level mathematics / statistics

Tutor Qualifications

Tutors should meet all of the following qualifications by the time they will be employed by the Aggie Math Learning Center:

Mathematics Tutor

  • Completed Linear Algebra • MATH 2270; or Differential Equations • MATH 2280; or Linear Algebra and Differential Equations • MATH 2250
  • B+ or higher grade in majority of math classes
  • B+ or higher grade in most recent math class
  • Minimum of 12 hours of university level mathematics / statistics

Statistics Tutor

  • Completed Stats 3000 or Math 5710
  • Only Stats 1040/1045 is required if applying as a Stats 1040/1045 Stats Tutor
  • B+ or higher grade in majority of stats classes
  • B+ or higher grade in most recent stats class
  • Minimum of 12 hours of university level mathematics / statistics
  • Stats 1040 / 1045 only need three hours of university math / stats

MSTF Qualifications

Math Stat Teaching Fellows should meet all of the following qualifications by the time they will be employed by the Aggie Math Learning Center:

Mathematics Teaching Fellow

  • Completed one Math Course at Utah State University
  • B+ or higher grade in majority of math classes
  • B+ or higher grade in most recent math class
  • Minimum six (6) hours of university level mathematics / statistics

Statistics Teaching Fellow

  • Completed Stats 1040 or 1045 or higher or
  • Completed Stat 3000 or Higher
  • Completed at least one Stats Course at Utah State University
  • B+ or higher grade in majority of stats classes
  • B+ or higher grade in most recent stats class
  • Minimum of six (6) hours of university level mathematics / statistics
