Maria J. Rodriguez, faculty member in the Department of Physics, has been named one of the "50 Most Influential Aggies" by The Utah Statesman to honor her contributions to Utah State University. These individuals were nominated by USU campus members and then selected by the newspaper editorial staff. Other year’s honorees include USU President Noelle Crockett (2019), Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox (2020), US House representative Blake Moore (2021), Logan City Mayor Holly Daines (2021).

Dr. Rodriguez, is currently the only tenured woman in the USU physics department, leads the Gravitational Theory Research Group and has authored important works on universal aspects of the quantum structure of black holes and event horizons.

Additionally, the newspaper's end-of-year edition celebrates USU's 2023 graduates with features on several notable students.
