Recognition Award, Heather Mason

USU Grad Commencement with Heather Mason

Heather Mason, your service to Utah State University as a member of the Board of Trustees and President of the Alumni Advisory Board has been marked by creativity, strategic vision, and unwavering commitment to elevating the Aggie experience.

A 1996 graduate in journalism, your journey with USU began as a student leader in the Arts & Lectures Office, where your innovation sparked the beloved “Poetry and a Beverage” series—an event that still resonates across campus today. That same spirit of innovation and care has characterized your entire professional and volunteer life.

As a Trustee, your contributions have been vital across several key committees, including the Audit, Risk, and Compliance Committee; the Student Health, Safety, and Well-being Committee; and the External and Strategic Partnerships Committee. As Chair of the Honorary Degrees, Awards, and Recognition Committee, you ensured that Utah State honors individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary service and achievement, upholding a tradition of excellence at commencement and beyond.

Your leadership as president of the USU Alumni Advisory Board has strengthened the university’s ties to its alumni community, reinforcing a sense of pride and belonging across generations of Aggies. Under your guidance, the Board has helped connect students, alumni, and university leadership in meaningful ways that reflect your values of inclusion, impact, and inspiration.

Beyond Utah State, your influence as founder and CEO of Caspian Agency has shaped the field of event strategy worldwide. Through your widely taught “Caspian 10 Essentials” and work with prestigious institutions, including the Skoll Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Omidyar Network, you have set a high standard for purposeful gatherings. Your leadership is not only celebrated within your industry but also recognized through your role as an educator at San Diego State University and contributions as a convening design consultant to the Rockefeller Foundation Design Guide.

Your work as a keynote speaker, convening consultant, board member, and screenwriter reveals a boundless creative energy that has made a lasting impression on USU and all those who have had the privilege to work with you. Your address as the 2022 commencement speaker for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences reminded graduates—and the entire campus community—of the power of storytelling, resilience, and vision.

Heather, your time on the Board of Trustees has been characterized by thoughtful engagement, generous collaboration, and a deep affection for the university. You leave a legacy of connection, celebration, and strategic insight that will continue to influence USU for years to come.

For your years of service to Utah State University, we extend our heartfelt appreciation, and we offer our best wishes as you continue to inspire and create in every area you touch. Utah State is stronger because of your voice, your leadership, and your enduring Aggie spirit.
