Two Utah health leaders recognized by Modern Healthcare

Two Utah healthcare leaders were selected as part of Modern Healthcare magazine’s annual list of women to watch.

Mikelle Moore and Heather Wall are among 10 women from across the nation being recognized in 2019.

Moore, the senior vice president of community health at Intermountain Healthcare, said she leads Intermountain in broadening the way it thinks about healthcare. Moore said she thinks she received the award because of the commitments Intermountain is making.

“We’re thinking about it, not just in terms of the healthcare we deliver through our clinics and hospitals, but how we contribute to health in all ways,” Moore said. “Particularly as we come to understand that things like education, income and safety all contribute more to health outcomes than the healthcare we receive or have access to as people.”

Wall is the chief commercial officer at Civica Rx, a non-profit generic drug manufacturing company with a mission to create safe, affordable medications.

“The focus on what we’re doing from Civica,” Wall said, “as a corporation, is one of the things I think has really made this award something that came my way as opposed to any of the other healthcare leaders that are out there doing wonderful and amazing things on a daily basis.”

Both women received the award due to the leadership they have shown through their work.

“I enjoyed the benefit of some really great mentoring when I was young,” Moore said. “I really believe in paying that forward. I mentor and provide advice to people who are considering health administration as well as coaching the next executives.”

Wall also said she has the responsibility to identify and mentor the next generation of healthcare leaders.

“I’ve had the opportunity to have a phenomenal career where I’ve been able to help patients,” Wall said. “I have the ability to identify females who absolutely have the opportunity to do wonderful and great things and help them make the connections required to have that happen for them.”

Moore and Wall said they are honored to receive this award.

“I feel a sense of responsibility to use this honor to celebrate what we’ve accomplished at Intermountain and what we’ve accomplished as a country in recognizing community health,” Moore said.
