The Aggies went into Saturday's game looking to do one important thing — and they did

The Utah State University women’s basketball team shut down the nation’s 3-point percentage leader in its game on Saturday.

The University of Wyoming came into the game shooting 43.7 percent from behind the 3-point line. The Aggies held the Cowgirls to just 19 percent from behind the arc.

The Aggies kept their opponents guessing by changing their defenses multiple times throughout the game.

“Typically, we play one string of defenses for maybe 8 or 10 possessions,” head coach Jerry Finkbeiner said. “Tonight we changed defenses almost on possession just to not give the Wyoming kids the chance to get into routine. I think we always kind of had them on their heels, and that really helped our cause with their shooting rhythm.”

Junior Shannon Dufficy said she and her teammates were happy with the way they played defense against Wyoming.

“We shut them down,” Dufficy said. “I think that was a big credit to our defense and I think that’s what got us over the line tonight.”

Dufficy, who led both teams in scoring with 24 points, said she attributed the Aggies’ 50-42 win to the energy they came out with.

“We had that written on the board before the game,” Dufficy said. “We knew we had to come out with energy. If we slacked off one possession, they were gonna knock a three on us, so we knew we had to, you know, possession by possession, go hard at them.”

The Aggies are now 8-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play. They play San Jose State on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
