Danish String Quartet performs in Logan for first time

A musical group from across the ocean played at Utah State University last week.

he Danish String Quartet performed at USU’s Russell/Wanlass Hall on Feb. 19. Three of the men are from Denmark and one is from Norway.

This was the quartet’s first time performing in Logan.

Some audience members said their ability to play in perfect unison while with ease made for an amazing performance.

“They were so relaxed,” said Nicky Jamison, a second-year viola student at Utah State University. “They had minimal movement but the sound they produced was just beautiful.”

Since their 2002 debut, the quartet members have travelled the world to display their musical stylings.

Carolyn Baird, a second-year violin student at Utah State University, also appreciated the quartet’s technique.

“I noticed they had such a unified tone,” Baird said. “It was butter!”

Asbjørn Nørgaard, a violinist in the quartet, credits some success to song selection.

“There’s so much stuff we can play, and there’s so much stuff written for a string quartet,” Nørgaard said. “So, we just take what we like. If people wanna hear it, we play it. It’s quite simple actually.”

Some of the quartet's repertoire includes original pieces, traditional Danish folk songs and renditions of Beethoven.
