Presentation/Speeches / College of Science

The characteristics that make Cache Valley, home of Utah State University, an enchanting place to live — encircling, majestic peaks; pastoral scenes of grazing cattle and snowy landscapes — are among the factors that contribute to one of the area’s not-so-attractive qualities: smoggy winters. We can easily see the problem, but what do we do about it? Cache Valley physician Ed Redd, who now represents District 7 in the State of Utah House of Representatives, has long pondered this challenge and presents his insights at Science Unwrapped. Prior to serving in the state's House of Representatives, Redd, who practiced internal medicine for 16 years, served as deputy director and medical officer of the Bear River Health Department. He chaired the Cache Valley Air Quality Task Force, seeking solutions to the region's unique air quality challenges. Hands-on learning activities, educational exhibits and refreshments follow Redd's talk.
