7:30 pm - 9:30 pm    Opera -- Merry Wives of Windsor

Arts & Entertainment / Caine College of the Arts

Merry Wives of Windsor is a comic operetta by Otto Nicolai based on the Shakespeare play of the same name. Sir John Falstaff, a confirmed bachelor in love with drink and long past his prime, finds that he is short on funds and so connives to tactlessly woo two well-to-do and married women – Mrs. Alice Ford and Mrs. Meg Page. Falstaff underestimates his prey, however. When the ladies realize that he used the exact same love letter for both of them, their initial amusement turns to shock and they decide to turn the tables and teach Sir John a lesson. Witty plots and cheery music abound as Mrs. Ford’s overly-suspicious husband is also taught a lesson along the way, proving to all that sweet, alluring and witty wives can 'play [their] games and yet be true' in an evening of charming operetta that has delighted audiences for over 150 years!
