A filled state STM image of patterned Si(100)-2x1 monohydride surface followed by 0.1ML Al deposition. The Al atoms falling on the H-terminated surface form round clusters, while those falling on the bare region form ad-dimer rows. From the accumulation of the round clusters at the edge of the bare region, one can deduce that more Al atoms diffuse from the H-terminated region and are trapped at the Si dangling bonds.
