Counseling and Prevention Services
Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS) provide a range of mental health and wellness support to students on Logan campus and all Statewide locations. Services are available in person and/or via telehealth. All services are available at no cost except for diagnostic evaluations. Individual therapy requires a minimum enrollment of 9 credits for undergraduate students and 6 credits for graduate students.
Services:
- Brief individual therapy (up to 8 sessions/year)
- Single Session Therapy
- Group therapy and support groups
- Same day crisis support
- Urgent care evening support (for students living on Logan campus)
- Community referral coordination (Case management)
- Psychological and psychoeducational assessment (include ADHD, learning disorders, and autism evaluations)
- Initial consultation (triage, treatment planning meeting – the first appointment for most students seeking CAPS services)
- Mental health skills coaching (REAC Peer skills coaching)
- Alcohol and other drug prevention services
- Nutrition counseling

Sexual Assault and Anti-Violence Information Office (SAAVI)
SAAVI provides advocacy and information to the USU community about interpersonal violence, including stalking, hazing, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and dating or domestic violence. SAAVI advocates are trained to help survivors navigate resources and reporting options both on and off campus. Services are free of charge to qualified students, faculty and staff.

- Confidential advocacy support
- Initial consultation
- Community referral coordination
- Reporting to the Office of Equity and/or law enforcement
- Sexual Assault Forensic Exam accompaniment (off campus)

Connect, Assist, Refer, Empower (CARE)
Connect, Assist, Refer, Empower (CARE): The CARE Office is dedicated to fostering a safe and supportive campus environment for all students. We facilitate connection to personalized resources both on and off-campus depending on a student’s unique situation. Our team collaborates with students to develop tailored action plans, connecting them to appropriate support services and promoting overall well-being. Whether you need guidance, advocacy, or simply someone to talk to, the CARE Office is here to help you navigate your journey at USU. Your well-being matters, and we’re committed to helping you thrive.
CARE helps with:
- Accessing healthcare
- Navigating difficult extenuating circumstances like the loss of a family member, a mental health concern, hospitalization, or other personal challenge
- Finding and connecting with a therapist
- Financial concerns
- Addressing difficulties with access to food or other basic needs
- Identifying and connecting with academic supports
- Intervening when you or someone you know are experiencing suicidal thoughts or feelings
- Intervening when you believe a student may be a danger to themselves or another person

Behavioral Health Clinic at Sorenson Center for Clinical Excellence (SCCE)
The Behavioral Health Clinic within the SCCE offers a range of services both to USU students and community members. Their fees are on a sliding scale.
Services:
- Clinical rehabilitation counseling
- Psychology and counseling – include the following specialty clinics; sexual and gender minority services, anxiety specialty services, child/adolescent psychology services, adult psychology services, and assessment and testing services.
- Marriage and family therapy
- Integrated assessment
- Dietitian/nutrition services
- Housing and financial counseling

Student Health Center
Student Health Center is operated by the Intermountain Health. Services are available only to students on Logan campus. In addition to primary care and other medical services, students can also access psychiatric care (i.e., medications for mental health issues).

Student Health Center Therapy Program
Work individually with a combined clinical/counseling psychology graduate student for short-term, goal-oriented mental health therapy sessions.

I-System Institute/Mind-Body-Bridging
Mind Body Bridging (MBB) alleviates psychological distress for individuals with a broad range of mental health issues, and increasing psychological flexibility and resilience. The Social Work Department offers a free MBB clinic for the USU community. Contact Tanya Comer for more information or make an appointment.

ACT Guide
ACT Guide is an online self-help program designed to foster emotional wellbeing and help individuals cope with mental health issues including depression and anxiety. Specialized ACT Guide programs focus on hairpulling, decluttering, and adolescents.
Trula Coaching
Trula Coaching is a national program. It allows students to be matched with peer coaches who are trained to provide support and guidance on common college struggles such as confidence, stress, and time management. Services are free to USU students.
