Faith Challenges Support Group

Workshop/Training

This group is an opportunity for students to get together in a safe environment, learn from, and support each other. Each week, we will discuss pertinent issues related to faith that create stress (e.g., having faith doubts or internal conflict with elements of your faith, clarifying your spiritual identity, stresses associated with faith transitions, finding a spiritual place of belonging, talking to those of different faiths, etc.). The topic of the day will be motivated by those who participate that day. This group will be facilitated by Monique Frazier, a psychologist from USU Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

Mindfulness in Nature

Workshop/Training | Home, Family, and Food

As per the requirements of Utah State University's infectious disease plan, Summit County guidelines, and Swaner's concern for our community's health and safety, this interactive lecture will take place via Zoom meeting. Once registered, you will receive instructions for how to access the webinar in your confirmation email. We will also be recording this program and will share it with registrants afterwards.

Join us for a pay-what-you-wish, interactive introduction to mindfulness with managing director of Mindfulness Utah, Anna Smyth!

Research has shown that mindfulness and time in nature enhance mental clarity, creativity, focus, and attention to detail in addition to reducing stress and stress-related illness. During this challenging time for our community, mindfulness can play a critical role—allowing us to awaken to the healing beauty of nature, even when things are hard. In this session, we’ll explore what mindfulness is and how to be mindful in the world around you, both through a discussion and by trying out some simple mindfulness practices easily applied within a personal or professional setting.

This event is presented in partnership with USU Extension Summit County.

To Teach is to Learn Twice by Dan Holland

Workshop/Training

As Joseph Joubert affirmed, “to teach is to learn twice.” Exceptional teaching necessitates continuous learning of the “what” and the “how” of instruction. Teachers spend much of their time mastering their understanding of their chosen field by researching theories and applications. However, of equal importance, teachers must persistently learn how to guide students through the learning process.

The Learn Twice initiative was conceived and instigated in the Huntsman School of Business in 2017. The purpose of Learn Twice is to develop a learning community that will assist faculty in discovering and refining the “how” of teaching. This is accomplished by encouraging collaboration, sharing, and innovation among teachers, students, and other stakeholders.

In this seminar, we will discuss the Learn Twice initiative in the context of how we may strengthen learning communities at Utah State University.
