Magical Maps: Using statistics to make maps for building code requirements that everyone can live with
Presenter: Dr. Brennan Bean from Mathematics and Statistics
Dr. Bean uses spatial statistics and machine learning to map snow load requirements across the U.S. These maps can struggle in complex terrain (e.g., mountains, ski resorts) where snow varies at finer scales than available data.
Let’s brainstorm ways to improve predictions in these high-stakes, data-scarce regions.
DSAI Center Seminar Series
Tues | 4:00 pm | HH 380
Speaker: Kirthevasan Kandasamy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
This workshop will break down the basics of AI prompting. Content will be divided into two 45-minute sections focusing first on prompt foundations, then advanced AI workflows and responsible Use of AI. Hosted by the USU Data Science and AI Center (DSAI Center).
Title: Incentivizing truthful data sharing in collaborative machine learning and data marketplaces
Abstract: Modern data marketplaces and data sharing consortia increasingly rely on incentive mechanisms to encourage agents to contribute data. However, schemes that reward agents based solely on the quantity of submitted data are vulnerable to manipulation. Existing approaches for incentivizing truthful data contributions typically rely on strong assumptions about the underlying data distribution or restrictive models of strategic behavior, limiting their practical applicability. In this talk, I will present our recent work addressing these challenges
