Bio

Austin joined the welding department faculty at USU Eastern in 2016. Prior to teaching at USU, Austin taught in the welding program at Helena College in Helena, Montana.

Austin started welding in high school through concurrent enrollment courses offered at USU Eastern. Austin completed an AAS in Welding Technology from USU in 2012, and a BS in Manufacturing Engineering Technology – Welding Emphasis from Weber State University in 2015. While enrolled at USU and WSU Austin worked as a welder and fabricator.

Austin also competed in SkillsUSA, and won three consecutive Utah Welding Fabrication contests, as well as three consecutive National Welding Fabrication contests from 2010-2012 while representing USU Eastern.

Austin has been a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) since 2016. Austin is a current member of three American Welding Society (AWS) Technical Committees: Committee A2 – Definitions and Symbols, Subcommittee A2B – Definitions, and Subcommittee A2C – Welding Symbols, which are collectively responsible for the publication of the ANSI National Standards AWS A2.1 AWS Welding Symbol Chart, AWS A2.4 Standard Symbols for Welding, Brazing, and Nondestructive Examination, and AWS A3.0 Standard Welding Terms and Definitions.
