Bio
I first rode a horse before I could walk. After I could walk, I drove a team of draft horses, while my Dad fed hay off the sleigh. I stood on a bale of hay to see where I was driving because I was too short (at four yrs old) to see over the front of the sleigh rack. At 3 years old, I started bottle feeding calves night and morning. At age 8 I graduated to milking cows. Being a small kid who loved animals, I was nominated to pull lambs when they got tangled up inside the ewe and couldn't come out. At age 12 I learned artificial insemination (AI) in cattle. I think there is nothing in the world cuter than a baby pig. I took a break from production agriculture to serve a 2-year church service-mission in Argentina. I earned an Associate degree in Welding Engineering Technology. I still use those skills to build and repair farm structures and equipment. I currently own dairy cattle, beef cattle, horses, and a couple of Boer goats for the kids to show, and a dog who I hire to discourage hay-thieving deer and elk in the winter. I most enjoy animal reproduction and genetics. I know enough about nutrition to try and not go broke feeding animals. Tractors and trucks are a means to an end for me. I'm happy if they get me from point A to point B. I can, and do, change oil and spark plugs but I would rather not. I am passionate about agriculture and believe that every red-blooded American should consume something that they produce, even if it's from a potted vegetable plant growing in the windowsill of a 42nd story apartment in Manhattan.
