Bio
Dr. Rusty Stott grew up on a small ranch in north central Montana. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University in 1997 and his DVM degree from Kansas State University in 2001. After 3 years spent in dairy practice in Burley, Idaho, Rusty joined USU in 2004. He was hired to spend 75% of his time caring for the animals of the Ag experiment station, and 25% of his time teaching and serving as an undergraduate advisor as well as an advisor to the Pre-Vet club. He also advises the Ag Animal and Theriogenology Club in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Stott is a Clinical Assistant Professor in ADVS department and the VCLS department. While his role has evolved over the years, he continues to serve the students as an advisor and professor. His current role is 60% teaching, 35% clinical, and 5% service. He currently teaches four courses in the College of Veterinary Medicine. He utilizes the opportunities that the Ag experiment station animals provide to help both the pre-vet students and the vet students gain valuable hands on experiences with food animal or equine medicine and surgery. He can be heard to say, and has been quoted by others, “Don’t let school get in the way of your education!”
In July of 2019, Rusty passed the Theriogenology Specialty board exam and can now claim to be a specialist in veterinary reproduction. This has been a goal of his for over 10 years. You can teach and old dog new tricks!
