Direct Deposit for Your Student Financial Account

Direct deposit allows money from your student financial account to be transferred or refunded directly into your personal checking or savings account. USU students with a U.S. checking or savings account are eligible to set up direct deposit. This is a free, secure, and convenient way to receive your funds without needing to visit a physical bank or taking any additional steps.

Note: The steps outlined below are to set up direct deposit solely for student account transfers or refunds. To set up direct deposit to receive your job wages (paycheck money) please contact your supervisor or employer for assistance.

Step-by-Step Guide to Set Up Direct Deposit

1

Determine which checking or savings account you want to use and gather the following information:

You wil need your (1) bank account number and (2) bank routing number. Here are the most common ways to find this information:

  • Bank mobile app — Open the app → tap the account → look for Account details, Account information, or a small “i” / gear icon. Many apps show Account number and Routing (ACH) number directly or have a “Share” / “Copy” button for each.

  • Bank website (online banking) — Log in, go to the checking/savings account page, then Account Details or Account Information. Routing and account numbers are often listed there or in a PDF of your statements.

  • Monthly statement (paper or PDF) — The full account number and routing number are usually printed on bank statements (PDFs found in online banking).

  • Visit a branch in person — Bring a photo ID and ask the teller to print or tell you the routing and account numbers for your account.

  • Call customer service — Use the phone number on the bank’s official website (not one from an email/text). Verify your identity (name, DOB, last 4 of SSN, etc.) and ask: “What is the ACH/routing number and the account number I should give for direct deposit?”
