Giving to USU Geosciences

Our Goal

Our department provides many small scholarships as well as critical healthcare, tuition, and research support to our students every year--all possible through charitable giving. We aspire to build select endowments to meet rising healthcare and tuition costs, to provide significant fellowships to attract underrepresented, first-generation, and high-achieving students, and to advance our department's research capacity.

Logan Canyon Endowment Fund in Honor of Dr. James Evans and Dr. Susanne Jänecke

Jim and Susanne

Dr. James Evans and Dr. Susanne Jänecke have been an integral part of the Geo department at USU since 1987 and 1991, respectively. They directly mentored 50 graduate students in research and have impacted thousands of students through their teaching. Their legacy at Utah State University is profound. With Jim and Susanne retiring, we are excited to honor them by establishing a new endowment called the Logan Canyon Fund. This fund has been thoughtfully created by alumni along with Jim and Susanne to support scholarships and research funding for graduate students in Geosciences. Thank you for Creating Your Aggie Impact by making a gift to support the Logan Canyon Fund.

Jones Fund for Geosciences Department Research

 Al Jones

L.C. Allen (Al) Jones grew up in northern Utah and central Idaho, joined the Geology Department at USU in 1984, and received his Bachelors in Geology in 1989 and his MS in Geology in 1995. The department welcomed Al with open arms, and he has felt like family ever since. Al is thankful for the patience and kindness shown to him when he was a student, especially from Don Fiesinger, the Department Head at the time. The purpose of this expendable gift is to enable the department to reach new heights of research activity, maintain labs and equipment, and help attract the best faculty and students. This fund is not like other scholarships that go to student tuition, but instead funds the departments directly and can be used as needed.  Situations where the gift can serve to leverage matching funds from outside the department are especially encouraged.
