Role Summary

The Agricultural Assistant performs manual and semi-skilled labor to support the daily operation of farms, including livestock care and/or crop maintenance, and equipment use. This is an entry level agricultural role under close supervision from more senior farm staff. 

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

Reports to the Agricultural Assistant SR, Ag Operation Team Lead, Ag Operation Team Lead SR, or Ag Operation Manager.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This position is an entry level position for individuals developing their agricultural skill set. The role focuses on task execution under guidance, with less autonomy and no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties

  • Assist with feeding, water, and general care of livestock.
  • Perform field tasks such as planting, weeding, and harvesting crops.
  • Clean and maintain animal stalls, pens, and equipment.
  • Operate basic tools and machinery under supervision.
  • Assist with irrigation set-up and monitoring.
  • Load and unload materials and feed.
  • Support seasonal tasks such as breeding, shearing, or crop harvest.
  • Follow all safety rules and training provided.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Work evenings, weekends, or holidays as scheduled.

Accountability

  • Complete tasks as directed by senior staff.
  • Adheres to protocols for animal care, equipment use, and personal safety.

Authority

  • Provides input to Farm Foreman regarding work progress and staff development needs.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Willingness to learn and follow directions.
  • Basic familiarity with tools, machinery, and animals.
  • Good work ethic and reliability.
  • Physical ability to perform labor-intensive tasks outdoors.
    • Physical capability to:
    • Walk/stand for approximately 65% of the time.
    • Sit for approximately 20% of the time.
    • Lift up to 100 lbs. approximately 5% of the time.
    • Perform stooping, bending, and crouching approximately 10% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Licensing & Certifications:
    • Valid Utah Driver’s License.
    • Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 60 days of employment.
  • Schedule Requirements:
    • Must be available for evening and weekend work as needed.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, exposing employees to agricultural chemicals, machinery, dust, and variable weather conditions.
  • Requires physical strength, endurance, and manual dexterity for operating farm equipment and performing labor-intensive tasks.
