Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a first-hand look at state government operations while working in a paid, full-time position.

  • All majors are welcome to apply.
  • Full time
  • This is a temporary, non-benefited position.

Interns work directly with an assigned senator or representative, providing administrative support and serving as their dedicated assistants throughout the session.

Applicant Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a junior or senior with 60+ credit hours
  • Have completed at least 1 year of classes on campus
  • Will not take classes during the legislative session.
  • Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA

The Utah State Legislature offers full-time internship positions each general session. Students are employed by the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel and are assigned to one or more legislators during the general session.

'Pathways to Public Service' is a series of events that have been specifically designed to provide a platform for dialogue and connection, while offering insights into the realm of public service, governance, and policymaking. The series comprises of a blend of seminars, meet-and-greet sessions, and panel discussions with Legislators, Government Officials, Lawmakers, seasoned professionals, and passionate advocates. Each event serves as a beacon, guiding participants along diverse pathways toward meaningful civic involvement and leadership.

Pathways to Public Service is more than just a series of events. It serves as a catalyst for transformation, fostering a new generation of advocates for social progress.

USU’s Institute of Government & Politics (IOGP)  connects students with internships and produces events for students, faculty, staff, and community to learn more about government, politics, and public policy.
