That words like "algebra" and "zero" come into English from Arabic shows the importance of Moslem developments in mathematics during the Middle Ages, as does the name given to our numbering system, "Arabic numerals," though Moslems didn't invent them. This type of number and the place-value counting system originated in the Hindu civilization of India.
