About The Department of Theatre Arts

student among large giants

Utah State University's Theatre Arts program prepares students for a wide range of careers across the performing arts industry. In addition to professional acting training, students can pursue emphases in Theatre Education and specialized tracks in costume design, scenic design, lighting design, and production technology. The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on production experience, allowing students to develop skills in performance, directing, technical theatre, design, and stage management. Graduates go on to careers as actors, designers, stage managers, directors, arts administrators, teaching artists, and K–12 theatre educators, while the Theatre Education emphasis also provides a pathway to state teaching licensure. Through opportunities such as the Lyric Repertory Company, students gain professional experience that helps prepare them for careers both on stage and behind the scenes.
