The Policy Office resides within Legal Affairs. We serve the campus community during the policy proposal, revision, retirement, and evaluation process. Our team is happy to help by:
- Providing guidance on the policy process
- Identifying possible content experts or compliance partners to serve on your policy development team
- Offering editorial support for proper citations, inclusive language, consistency
- Submitting policy to Office of General Counsel for legal advice
- Comparing proposed policy to existing policies to identify overlap or possible conflicts
- Suggesting the appropriate time frame to review policy
- Providing details about the approval work flow and when committee meetings are held
- Providing training and best practices to ensure a successful policy implementation

Lifecycle
1: Initiate
Identify a need or gap in current policy. Perhaps new legislation has been proposed or existing policy excludes a specific population.
2: Develop
Research best practices at peer institutions or professional organizations. Consider the impact to various audiences.
3: Collaborate
Seek content experts and compliance partners to serve on the policy development team.
4: Communicate
Solicit feedback from stakeholders. Revise and incorporate feedback into proposal.
5: Present
Meet with various committees for approval.
6: Assess
Implement training and a communication plan. Monitor compliance and review efficacy of the policy on a regular basis.
