Public Comment Period

Provide feedback on policy proposals

As outlined in Policy 1001, the USU Campus Community is invited to participate in the policy development process by providing feedback during a public comment period.

Best Practices for Contributing Effective Public Comments

After reading the policy, consider the following:

  • Consider how the proposed policy will impact you and/or your department, unit, college etc.
  • Provide constructive and information-rich or data-informed comments.
  • The comment period is not an official vote. The intent is to strengthen and enhance the proposal, resulting in a more robust policy.
  • Include alternative solutions or examples.
  • Keep your comments concise.
  • If a policy section is unclear or confusing, seek clarification from the Policy Custodian or provide details about why.
  • Consider if the policy articulates which individuals have authority to carry out the actions of the policy.
  • Remember, a policy is an authoritative statement that establishes values or a philosophy or delegates authority to individuals to coordinate key functions of the
university. A policy focuses on the ‘why’ while procedures and guidance focus on the ‘how’.

Policy 1220: General Expenditures Policy
This Policy establishes standards and responsibilities for the appropriate and transparent expenditure of University funds.

Review the proposed revision and executive summary online.

Due to an expedited time frame public feedback will be available until July 17, 2026.
