Carnegie Community Engagement Classification

The Carnegie Community Engagement Classification is a prestigious designation awarded to institutions that demonstrate a sustained commitment to community engagement. It recognizes collaboration between universities and their communities for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources. The classification encourages alignment of teaching, research, and service with community-identified needs, promoting civic responsibility and positive societal impact.

In 2020, the USU Center for Community Engagement led Utah State University’s first-time application for the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, which was recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as a national model of excellence. To support continued success, the university established the role of Associate Vice Provost for Community Engagement in 2024 to oversee the reclassification process, conducted on a five-year cycle.
