David Herrmann
2026 Cazier Professor Lifetime Achievement Award Nominee
Jon M. Hunstman School of Business | Department of Marketing & Strategy
David Herrmann has taught at the Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University for the past 21 years. He has taught Business Management, Business Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and New Venture Finance on both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Several years after joining the Huntsman School, David became involved in the study abroad program and has been very active in global learning since that time. He was part of the first program to South America in 2007 visiting Chile, Peru, and Brazil. In 2008, he organized an Asia trip to South Korea, China, and Vietnam. He also assisted in the development of the Eastern Europe program in 2009. Since 2018, he has led global learning trips to Vietnam, Thailand, China, Seattle, Spain, and Japan.
As a business owner, Mr. Herrmann wanted students to have access to entrepreneurial education and experiences, so he developed the SEED program, which places students in developing countries to help aspiring entrepreneurs build their businesses. He built programs in Peru and Ghana, and several additional locations have been added over the years. He also founded the Huntsman School’s Entrepreneurship Club, E-Week, and a speaker series course. He is very passionate about giving USU students the hands-on skills to be successful in business, whether they work for someone else or start their own companies.
Mr. Herrmann has started several companies over the last 25 years, the most recent one in 2025. He has consulted for a number of businesses, has taught at universities in Chile and China, and co-authored three textbooks and a few case studies. He earned his MBA from the Marriott School of Management at BYU.
Mr. Herrmann resides in Smithfield. He and his wife, Melanie, have been married for 40 years and have five children and fifteen grandchildren. David speaks Japanese and a little bit of German and Spanish. He enjoys the outdoors and loves spending time with students.
