Austin Ball
2026 Undergraduate Faculty Mentor of the Year Award Nominee
College of Engineering | Civil & Environmental Engineering
Austin Ball brings the perspective of a practicing civil engineer into the classroom through more than 15 years of professional experience in general civil, structural, and bridge engineering. As an instructor at Utah State University, his teaching focuses on senior design courses, surveying, and bridge engineering.
At the core of Austin’s work is a commitment to teaching and mentoring students as they transition into practicing engineers. He guides students through open-ended coursework, team-based projects, and capstone experiences that reflect professional practice and emphasize the application of technical fundamentals to real-world problems. Beyond the classroom, he actively advises student organizations including ASCE and its associated competition teams, SEAU, and other engineering clubs, supporting students as they build leadership skills, professional identity, and readiness for engineering practice.
