WHAT: What is Science Unwrapped?

Science Unwrapped is the Utah State University College of Science’s public outreach program. During the academic year, we host monthly gatherings featuring a brief science lecture, followed by hands-on learning activities provided by university and community volunteers, along with free refreshments. We welcome inquiring minds of all ages to explore STEM learning with us and to ask lots of questions!

WHERE: Where is Science Unwrapped held and where can I park?

Science Unwrapped is held in the Emert Auditorium (Room ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on the USU campus in Logan. The Eccles Science Learning Center is located north of Old Main and south of the Taggart Student Center. Please visit Directions and Parking Information to plan your visit.

What kinds of topics does Science Unwrapped cover?


All kinds of topics! Since starting the program in 2009, we’re explored space, human anatomy, robots, climate, black holes, epidemics, food science, wildlife ecology and much more. What if my young child becomes restless during the Science Unwrapped talk?

No worries: Attending a science talk is a learned pleasure! You’re welcome to exit the auditorium and enjoy the coloring table in the lobby, then join in the hands-on learning activities in the atrium, following the talk.

I’d like to attend a Science Unwrapped event, but I’m unable to do so in person. Are the talks recorded?

Yes. Science Unwrapped presentations are videotaped. Recordings of each presentation are posted to the website within about a week of the live event. View our past presentations on our searchable Science Unwrapped Presentations page.

Who conducts the hands-on learning activities following each talk?

Science Unwrapped benefits from volunteers from many different organizations. Some of our volunteers are USU students from varied STEM, education and service organizations. Some of our volunteers are from community organizations. They are ALL awesome and provide great learning activities!

Is Science Unwrapped accessible?

Yes. For information regarding ASL interpreting, accessible parking and wheelchair access, please contact the USU Disability Resource Center at 435-797-2444 or via email at drc@usu.edu. For assistance at our events, please ask our Science Ambassadors (dressed in Aggie Blue shirts and wearing nametags) for seating assistance. We also video record each presentation, each of which is available online, with closed captioning, about a week following each live presentation.

I am (or my group is) interested in volunteering at Science Unwrapped. How do I learn more and sign up?

I am a teacher and I’d like to encourage my students to attend. Do you provide a way my students can show proof of attendance?

Following each presentation, we provide printed proof of attendance slips student may pick up in the lobby. Some teachers also have their students take a selfie photo with their mobile phone at the event.
