5th Annual Northern Utah Conference to End Violence Set for June 9

Utah State University is inviting professionals, advocates, students and community members to the fifth annual Northern Utah Conference to End Violence on June 9 at the Riverwoods Conference Center in Logan.

Registration is now open, and this year's conference theme is "A Call for Collaborative Leadership."

Presented by the USU Office of the President and CAPSA, NUCEV brings together individuals working across higher education, advocacy, health care, law enforcement, public policy and social services to address domestic and sexual violence. Since its launch in 2022, the conference has focused on practical strategies and stronger connections among those doing prevention and response work across the region.

The keynote will be delivered by Deb Mashek, a social psychologist, author of Collabor(h)ate, and former executive director of Heterodox Academy, a nonprofit dedicated to viewpoint diversity. Her keynote, "Collaboration: From Empty Buzzword to Transformative Impact," will explore how intentional collaboration can move teams and institutions from isolated efforts toward meaningful, sustained change.

Breakout sessions will cover topics including survivor-centered legal frameworks, culturally responsive support for Native survivors, disability and sexual violence, adolescent relationship violence prevention, and inclusive approaches to supporting male survivors. Together, the sessions reflect the complexity of violence prevention work and the importance of addressing it through multiple lenses.

In addition to breakout sessions, the conference will conclude with a community panel featuring local advocates and professionals engaged in violence prevention and survivor support. The panel will offer space to reflect on shared challenges, highlight community-based practices and consider how collaboration across disciplines and institutions can strengthen collective impact.

NUCEV also offers professional development opportunities, including continuing education credits through the National Association of Social Workers and, pending approval, POST in-service training hours for law enforcement. The conference is free for USU students, faculty and staff. General registration is $45, with an additional $25 fee for attendees seeking NASW continuing education units.

Registration, speaker information and session details are available at nucev.usu.edu.
